Perhaps the most noticeable change to Hystar this year has been the incredible growth of the team. As of today, we are 27 employees in Hystar; more than double the count from the beginning of the year! And several other colleagues will be starting early in the new year.
“While it’s perhaps not uncommon to hear that a company only hires ‘the best people,’ I can confidently say that about the Hystar team,” says Fredrik. “We have a focus on hiring ‘true believers,’ people who are passionate about making a difference and who believe green hydrogen – and particularly the game-changing technology that Hystar provides – is key to making that difference. The new colleagues we’ve brought on board this year are true believers, and they’re excellent at what they each do to contribute to making that difference.”
In addition to the fantastic growth of the team, another notable highlight from 2022 was landing our project with Equinor, Gassco, and Yara, with funding from Enova. This is an important project for Hystar, as it will be the first infield installation of a Hystar electrolyser and gives us the opportunity to really showcase our technology.
Speaking of our technology, this year has also seen the launch of our Innovation Centre, where we’ve started assembly of our electrolyser stacks. We’re really looking forward to welcoming guests there for the grand opening next year.
When asked if anything has surprised him about this year, Fredrik noted Hystar has received a lot of attention; more than he’d expected.
“We’ve been positively surprised with the level of interest we’ve received this year,” he says. “There is a lot of focus on green hydrogen in general at the moment, and that’s led to Hystar getting a lot of attention as a key company to watch in the sustainability space. From customers – current and potential – to suppliers, potential hires, the media, as well as politicians, everyone has been really excited about what we’re working on and how we’re going to make an impact on the industry.”
“Progress has been better than expected! Things have gone much more smoothly than I would expect when commercialising a new product and growing at the pace we have. Of course, supply chain issues have hit the industry hard in general and Hystar hasn’t been completely immune to that. Thankfully, though, it hasn’t impacted our overall progress and we’ve managed to stay ahead of schedule.”
Hystar’s had a really good year in 2022, so some might wonder how we’ll top that in 2023. Fredrik has a few ideas about that…
“Well, we’ve got a big announcement coming up in the first quarter,” he notes, “so keep an eye out for that. We’ll also be celebrating the official grand opening of our Innovation Centre in May, which will house both R&D and testing facilities, as well as stack production. I’m looking forward to being able to invite customers, suppliers, and other industry guests to come see what we’ve been working on.
“2023 will see us producing the first stacks for customer deliveries, which is an important milestone. And, of course, we’re looking forward to expanding further and announcing new partnerships globally.”
Building off the momentum of this year, Hystar will continue to strengthen our team. We’ll be launching a major recruitment effort early in the year and look forward to bringing on new team members. Keep an eye out for lots of exciting positions posted in the coming weeks!
2022 was a great year for Hystar, and 2023 is already shaping up to be even better. A big thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey so far; we’re looking forward to even more collaborations ahead!
