Commemorating United Nations Day

author

Did you know the 24 October is United Nations Day? Each year, the day commemorates the forming of the United Nations: an intergovernmental organization with the aim of maintaining international peace and security, fostering good relations between nations, achieving international cooperation, and acting as the central point of harmony between member nations.

Of particular note is the work the UN is doing with regards to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are key to a sustainable, equitable future, and Hystar is determined to contribute to achieving them.

Some of the goals Hystar is actively working on include:

Affordable and clean energy

Hystar’s purpose is to develop technology for a greener future. We make efficient electrolysers for green hydrogen production, which has a key role to play in access to affordable, clean energy. Green hydrogen has been called “the great equalizer” when it comes to access to energy, and makes it easier to increase the penetration rate of renewables, too.

Climate action

The Paris Agreement set the target of keeping global temperature rise below 2˚C and ideally no higher than 1.5˚C. To achieve this, there needs to be a drastic reduction in emissions and continuous work towards a net-zero society. Here, green hydrogen has a key role to play, particularly with regards to hard-to-abate sectors.

We also have a focus on:

Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Industry is one of the biggest sources of global emissions. Green hydrogen can have a massive impact on helping the hard-to-abate sectors reach net-zero and become part of a sustainable future. And with Hystar’s focus on innovation, it’s clear to see how we impact this SDG.

Responsible consumption and production

Hystar has a focus on the circular economy and ensuring circularity of the components we use as much as possible, right from the design stage.

Gender equality

Hystar has a strong focus on equality in our recruitment and promotion practices, including gender equality. By the end of 2022, we will have 40% women in our staff.

These goals are ingrained in everything that we do and more than ever, we feel that it is important to achieve them for the energy transition to happen.

Here’s to wishing you a happy United Nations Day! We hope you’ll join us in making the SDGs happen.
