Vega is Hystar’s containerized solution, built around the Eos stack solution.

Each Vega unit delivers 5 MW of capacity (1,000 Nm³/h hydrogen output) at a guaranteed system efficiency of 50.7 kWh/kg at 100% load, with hydrogen delivery pressure up to 45 bar(g).

Vega ships as a containerized unit, making it the fastest route from order to operating hydrogen production for industrial customers with high electricity costs, such as heavy industry, refining, and chemicals.

What is the Vega solution?

Vega is Hystar’s containerizedcontainerised, plug-and-play PEM electrolyser systemsolution. The complete Vega solution consists of three pretested units for fast onsite deployment 

  1. the Process Unit (Vega 1000) including the electrolyser core process with the stacks,
  2. the Power Unit providing the stacks with current; and
  3. the Conditioning Unit, which is purifying and optionally compressing the produced hydrogen.  


Based on the project, the right selection of units can be adjusted. In any case the Vega 1000 Process Unit is delivered by Hystar. The power Unit can be delivered by Hystar but can also be sourced by the 
customer directly. The same is true for the Conditioning Unit.  

The Vega 1000 Process Unit packages Hystar’s Eos stack technology, the core electrolyser process also called balance of stack, water purification, cooling, ventilation and process control.

The Vega – Power Unit is a standardised 5 MW power equipment consisting of a Transformed and a rectifier which is delivering current directly to the stacks. The transformed can be adjusted to the mid voltage grid of the individual customer. The Power Unit can either be sourced directly by the customer or be provided by Hystar. 

The Conditioning Unit is processing the hydrogen product stream from the Vega 1000 – Process Unit and depending on the configuration is either purifying it or compressing and purifying it. This can be adjusted in alignment with the requirements of the customers. 

A single Vega 1000 – Process Unit has a unit capacity of approximately 4.5 MW, producing up to 1,024 Nm³ of hydrogen per hour (approximately 92 kg/h). 

Vega has a guaranteed system efficiency of 50.7 kWh/kg at 100% load and 4 bar(g) wet hydrogen output (47.5 kWh/kg at the stack level), rising to 51.7 kWh/kg when hydrogen is conditioned and purified and to 52.7 kWh/kg when hydrogen is compressed to 30 bar(g). This includes the Power Unit all cases. 

Under ideal conditions, Vega can deliver hydrogen at up to 45 bar(g), reducing or removing the need for separate downstream compression in many applications.

Yes. Vega supports a 0–100% operating range, a cold start-up time under 5 minutes, a warm start-up time under 30 seconds, and a dynamic response of 10% per second, allowing it to track variable renewable generation. 

In Vega, Hystar’s PEM stack Eos is implemented which uses Hystar’s patented anode air feed and cathode water feed design, which dilutes hydrogen crossover into the oxygen stream to reduce explosion risk — what Hystar positions as the safest PEM electrolyser architecture on the market. In addition, the hydrogen inventory of the system is separated from the stack membrane by the purified water which acts as a water seal during operation and, more importantly also when the unit is stopped.  

Vega is a single containerized 5 MW unit designed for plug-and-play deployment at one industrial site. Orion is a 20 MW modular cluster architecture built for large-scale plants that combine multiple stack modules behind one balance of plant, scaling to hundreds of megawatts or gigawatts.
